Description

A rich, chocolatey cake filled with pudding and coated in chocolate frosting and crumbs, famous for its history and nostalgic taste.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup chocolate pudding
  • 1 cup dark chocolate frosting
  • Chocolate cake crumbs (for decoration)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla to the dry ingredients and mix until well combined.
  4. Stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth.
  5. Pour the batter into two greased and floured 9-inch round cake pans.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Let the cakes cool before removing from pans.
  8. Once cooled, layer the cakes with chocolate pudding and frost the top and sides with dark chocolate frosting.
  9. Decorate with chocolate cake crumbs.

Notes

For a richer flavor, let the cake sit for a few hours before serving. Best served chilled.
